"What's your last name?"
“Do you guys have a scanner?” Apparently, the name tag makes me part of “you guys.” I’m a library aide—I shelve books and occasionally wipe things down. Anything other than that is outside of the scope of my duties. I am not a librarian. But fellow students couldn’t know that. So I don’t get impatient with the questions. I simply redirect them to the...

"What's your name?"
I’ve been craving some snack-like stuff through out day. I got caught up in art and music all evening. I looked at the clock & realized my local grocery store was closing in 15 minutes. So I threw on some clothes and drove like an asshole. I thought about getting pulled over for driving double the speed limit & getting a ticket.”Well,” I’d shrug and think,...

Of a Calculator Watch
Context of conversation: the reliance of our nation on oil for every day living, not limited to gasoline. (Note: I love talking with older folk who have no grid for technology.)
Anon: Even that stupid watch of yours is made of petroleum.
Me: My watch isn't stupid...
Anon: Look at it. It's a computer.
Me: (Holds back laughter)
Anon: It has all those buttons. But you have baby fingers so you can actually press the buttons.
__
Can't argue either of those points, can I?
Yes, this was an actual conversation I had. Perhaps not your odd brand of humor, but I found it hilarious. So much so that I had to reenact it through this mini-screenplay.

"You like films" (Movies vs. Films)
I realized that I can’t complain about poorly-made films anymore. There are bad movies because there are ambitious people out there making them. So unless I get out there and contribute my own films, I can’t really complain.

We're really good at science, and still getting...
We live in a sanitized society. We organize and categorize everything. Every day fits into a month that fits into a year that fits in a calendar. Every second fits into a minute that fits into an hour that fits in a clock. Every year of our lives is measured and categorized. When you’re two, you’re a ruthless toddler learning independence (“terrible twos”). When you’re five you go to kindergarten....

Poem
I’m a real living person with more on the inside than just lies
And more on the outside than just flaws and scars
God, I believe you’re who you say you are
And in believing in you, I’m believing in me
And not just who the past dictates me to be
Because it’s not beyond you to rewrite my history
And you’re in my future, even though it’s a mystery to me
Even though it’s not set in stone,...

What It Is To Burn
Listening to this Finch album really takes me back. It takes me back to chain-smoking cigarettes in the break room at work. It takes me back to flipping through the pages of vampire novels and other dark-plotted stories. It takes me back to the days of pushing a trash can around an office building half-heartedly collecting trash from employees who mostly ignored me (pretended I wasn’t there)....
